Mirror mirror. . .

This past Saturday Joe & I went to several yard sales with a couple items in mind: 1. mirror for our guest room 2. wooden chair for our desk. We didn't really find anything at the handful of yard sales, so we decided to venture over to the DAV and we found this mirror for $10.

I am really into white things lately and want to eventually purchase a white dresser, night stand, and bed for our guest room. We are currently using my old bedroom furniture (dresser and night stand) and our bed is on a cheap metal bed frame. So here is our new and improved mirror:

With a can of inexpensive white spray paint, this mirror looks completely different!

The Start of Fall

This Saturday we took advantage of the beautiful 70 degree weather and headed to Johnson's Orchards and Peaks of Otter Winery.

It was also Sreedevi's 19th birthday and her first birthday away from home so we wanted to do something fun! We spent the afternoon picking apples, petting furry animals, and taking in the beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Happy 19th Birthday Sreedevi!

And thanks to you Joe for our HUGE pumpkin! =)

Bucket List for Fall

Fall is one of my favorite seasons and I just love everything that comes along with it: beautiful leaves, apple cider, pumpkin lattes, pumpkin ice cream, and of course the crisp weather. This fall I want to take advantage of living in this area and do fall activities. Here is my short bucket list for this fall:
  • Go to a pumpkin patch to get our pumpkin.
  • Go apple picking and make a fresh apple pie.
  • Hike to Mcafee's Knob:
  • Go camping (I've only been once and Joe has never been!) -- it's probably the only time that Joe would consider it, since he is hot natured.

Christmas came early...well, kinda

This year for Christmas I decided to put everyone's money together and buy a {nice} camera. Last night I was browsing d5000's on several websites (because this is now a hobby of mine) and I came across one site that had it on sale.

Joe and I decided to go ahead and purchase it but with one stipulation -- It remains in its package until Christmas. We will be going home the middle of October and will take it with us to keep there until Christmas, we decided it would be best =) Joe is picking it up this evening at the store and it is going to be SO hard controlling my urge to rip open that box. Christmas morning will be even more exciting, right? At least that's what I keep telling myself!

Spray Paint Take 2

I had spray paint left over from my vase project, so I started looking around my apartment to see what would be my next victim. I noticed this boring flower pot right away (forgot to take a before pic) and thought that my lime green paint would bring it to life! So I applied the primer. . .

And look how it came to life instantly!

Now I know I don't have any flowers in it yet (because i kill them) but I think it looks great on our outdoor bistro table.

Gaga for Gaga

So this past Wednesday (Sept. 8th) I had the chance to go to the Lady Gaga concert at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville. The best part was that two of my bff's from high school came too!! Here we are on the car ride.

The one the only, Lady Gaga!!

A fan gave her this UVA shirt to wear and she was a good sport and put it on. She made it clear that she normally doesn't wear t-shirts.

It was a GREAT concert and if she is ever in your area GO! She changed outfits almost 20 times and not to mention the dancing, stage scenes, and special effects.

Yard Sale Find

This past Saturday I did something I normally don't do: A. I got up at 6:30 and B. I went to yard sales! I found this vase (for only $3) and thought it would look great in our living room because we have green accents all around. The only problem was that it was more of a sage green and the greens I use are brighter.

The first thing I thought of was SPRAY PAINT (Thank you Amanda! Check out her blog). So I headed to Lowe's and found the same color green as my accent pillows!

I also bought primer because being a rookie at spray painting, I wasn't sure if I would need it. So 1st step was priming the beaut:

Then I turned the vase upside down to start applying the pretty green!

And here is the finished product, I couldn't believe how exact the color was to my pillows (I already had the reeds to go inside):

Chalkboard Paint

So I came across this dog "cutting board" in TJ Maxx a couple weeks ago.

My creative juices started flowing and I thought this would look cute above my dog's food bowls. So I bought a few supplies {chalkboard paint} and went to work!

After I drilled holes in the top I gave it a coat of paint!

I picked up a small roll of cream ribbon from A.C. Moore to hang it and then wrote w/ chalk (duh). I really think my 1st project w/ Chalkboard Paint was a success!

Even the pups love it! =)

Hair Saver

This deeeeep conditioner caught my eye in my latest InStyle as an editor's {cheap} favorite hair product. I randomly came across this at the new Walmart and decided to try it out. For $3 you can't beat it and it leaves your hair smelling great! I highlight my hair every 3 to 4 months and straighten it several times a week and it worked for me!

New Job

For those of you who haven't heard I got a job!! I will be working for West Manor as a wedding planner! Here is a picture of the beautiful venue:

Breathtaking huh?

West Manor is one of Virginia's hot spots for weddings and it doesn't hurt that it provides spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains all around. My first day is on Friday and I will also be meeting a lot of my brides because they will be at West Manor for a tasting. So wish me luck as I start this new chapter in my life and I will keep you updated on the happenings.

Meet Esme

This is our newest addition, she is a Shih Tzu/Pekingese mix. We have only had her for two weeks but boy does she have a personality! She is a two and a half pound ball of fur that snorts when she's hyper and likes to run around without looking where she is going. Her big sis, Penelope, wasn't thrilled when we first brought her home, but now they are inseparable!! She has been the perfect fit in our little family and we are so excited to introduce her to our family in a week!

Remembering You

Five years ago today my grandmother lost her seven month battle to cancer. I cannot believe that it has been five years without her and for some who may not have known her or remember her, I want this post to give you an insight on the woman she was.

My mom-mom Henrietta was courageous, devoted to her family, and the cook I hope to become one day. She made the very best gooey chocolate chip cookies and would always let you help make them even if you got the egg shell in the batch. She was known for striking up conversations with complete strangers that usually ended with her bragging about her children and grandchildren. My mom-mom could diagnose any illness and could usually tell you how to cure it. Her porch is where we would all go to be together during late hours of the night just to talk. Her home was always filled with her children and grandchildren and that is the way she wanted it. On special evenings at her house she would bring out her milkshake maker and whip up her famous chocolate milkshakes -- this was always a winner with the grandkids! Even though my mom-mom never attended beauty school I would always go to her to pluck my eyebrows (seriously, this woman could do anything!) because she could pluck them perfect every time! There are many traits that I could take from her but one that sticks out the most was her will to give. She was always giving and never expected to get anything in return. She always put her family before her self and that is what truly made her happy. I am so thankful to have had such a close relationship with my mom-mom and often look back on all those good times together. I have wished so many times in the past five years that she could be here to take part in the many milestones in my life but I know she wouldn't trade where she is for nothing. In Christ I know that there are no goodbyes and I am so thankful for the fact that I will see her again.

Forever Young

Wow...So it has been a really long time since I've blogged. Since my last post a lot has changed. I finished my internship at Blair Marketing and I graduated from LU w/ my BS in Communication, specializing in PR. What makes me even happier about graduation is that my whole family came to see me! Well not whole family but basically everyone! I have also started the job hunt and it is not fun at all, it is so easy to get discouraged. Especially when you send emails and resumes to companies and you never hear a response. I am very thankful to still have my job at The Fat Tuna and loooove the people that I work with, so that makes things a lot better. I have a couple opportunities coming up, so I'll blog about that later, once I know information. Since I've graduated and looking for a full time job one thing keeps popping in my mind, I'm OLD. So whenever I'm feeling old I turn on some JayZ and he reminds me that I'm forever young =p

Below are some pictures that can sum up the past couple months:

*We joined an amazing small group from our church*

*I graduated from college*

*The majority of my family came*

*I got a MacBook Pro*

AND. . .

*Penelope & I Skyped for the 1st time and I ♥ it!*

Well that's all for now, catch ya later!

Happy Monday!

I am not really a fan of Mondays but waking up to sunshine and warmer weather puts a smile on my face! It is suppose to be in the lower 60's most of the week, if I only had a tan =/ It has been some time since I wrote my last entry and a lot has happened since then. I am currently interning at Blair Marketing and really enjoying all the valuable information that I am learning from this experience. When starting this internship my main goal was to figure out which area of PR I wanted to focus on. One area that I am really involved in is Social Media and this really sparks an interest for me! They have directed me to many different SM sites and also gave me tips in using each site effectively.

It is only 2 months away from graduation and I am starting to get anxious because the job hunt will soon start. I have to admit that it's also kinda sad because I will be saying goodbye to good friends, leaving my job of 3 years (The Fat Tuna), and actually going out into the real world where I will be in an office M-F from 9-5. Putting my nerves aside, I am very excited to find that first job where I will be able to put all the information that I've learned throughout my 3 1/2 years at LU and from my internship. I know there will be many things that I will learn once I am actually in a position and I'm so ready for that! So, wish me luck as I enter this new phase in my life and I will continue to write about my experiences!
