DIY Fire Pit

After a year of wanting a fire pit I am happy to say we finally have one. Instead of buying one at Lowe's we decided to make our own. The first step was picking out the brick. We decided on this one:

Next we measured out the circle with spray paint and then dug a small hole.

We started with two rows of bricks but decided three looked much better.
Each brick was $1.78 at Lowe's.

We then went to a local landscaping business and purchased tiny stones to fill the bottom. The stones were only .60!

I couldn't resist posting this pic of our cute onlookers :)

And that's it! Just fill it with wood. . .

And we have a fire pit!

It really is a nice addition to our backyard and this fire pit was cheaper than the one we had our eye on! I would call that a win!

Doggie Birthday

I'm a huge fan of birthdays, so of course we celebrate our dog's too! Esme turned 2 yesterday and I had to make the evening special. Every birthday I make doggie cupcakes for them -- they are a huge hit and they only get them two times a year. The smell isn't very appetizing because it consists of wet dog food (but again it is a dog only treat:), but it's worth it. I would say she had a great day.

Oh, and checkout Esme's cupcake tee, yes they both sport this on their day! :)

McAfee Knob

This past Saturday we hiked a total of 8 miles to one of the most popular views in Virginia. McAfees Knob is located in Catawba, Virginia and is part of the Appalachian Trail that goes from Maine to Georgia -- so obviously this was a very small part of it. We were beat afterwards but the view was spectacular!!

The hike wasn't really strenuous -- just a gradual incline up. There were a few points in the hike that were difficult but thankfully it didn't last long.

The view at the top:

It took a total of 4 hours and this included a 30 minute stop at the top. Everyone at the top was having a picnic lunch and packing one is a very good idea. You work up an appetite!

Mother's Day

I am so thankful to have such a wonderful and caring Mom.

My mom and I have always been close. We talk almost everyday and I value her opinion on important decisions. We are so much alike in many ways (i.e. shopping haha! No, really more than that). I can't imagine growing up without this relationship. And I really hope my future kids and I have that same close bond. So Happy Mother's Day Mom, I love you and I'm so thankful to have someone like you...a mom and friend.
