Joseph's 29th Birthday

If you know anything about my family you know we love birthdays. It was my favorite holiday growing up because my whole family would get together and cook up tons of delicious food and then have a big celebration. This is one tradition I new I would carry on and quickly got Joe on board too. Joe's birthday was on a Wednesday this year but we started celebrating last weekend. We celebrate all week anyway in this family, and I'm fine with that!

Saturday morning I created this little masterpiece (Joe thought it was anyway!). Joseph loves Krispy Kreme donuts, so why not have a donut cake?! It worked out perfectly because National Donut Day was the day before -- 2 great reasons to have donuts!

We spent Sunday afternoon relaxing at Ivy Lake. It's one of our favorite summer spots in the Burg.

Enjoying his free birthday Starbucks!

The night of his birthday we ate dinner at one of his favorite local pizza places -- Rivermont Pizza.

After dinner we had a yummy ice cream cake from Dairy Queen.

My glasses were popular :)

And the night ended with gifts...Joe has been wanting a Denali North Face for forever and he finally got one and Sperry's too. I always love when he actually asks for gifts because he never does, so a lot of times it's a guessing game.
{side note: i love washi tape}

And Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there. I am so thankful for my dad and how involved he was in my life. He was a hard worker and made sure I had everything I ever wanted but made time for tea parties, taking me to the zoo, and special dad/daughter dates pulling up crab pots (saving turtles) in Nars! I still cherish those memories today!

Kristin's Maternity Shoot

When it comes to photography I definitely don't call myself a professional. It's more of a hobby and I love doing mini shoots for friends. Every time I shoot I learn something new. With this one, I learned that lighting is everything.

Kristin is 37 weeks pregnant with her second child, a baby boy. It almost didn't happen because of crazy, busy schedules but I'm so glad it did! I am so pleased with the pictures and the lighting was so good that I only had to make minor edits. Take a look...

Kristin had a similar picture taken on a dirt road just like this when she was pregnant with Meredith!

I call this photo shoot a win..a beautiful {photogenic} family, beautiful preggo {how can you look THAT good at 37 weeks!}, great location, and amazing lighting! I'm so excited for baby boy's newborn pictures!! Hopefully sooner rather than later, right Kris?

My Lovelies

Peonies are my favorite flower and they just so happened to be a part of my garden (thank you previous home owners!!). I still remember the day I discovered them, it was the best day! Sadly when I found them they had already died. But I learned my lesson and each Spring I watch them like a hawk. As soon as they are perfectly bloomed I cut them and display them all over the house. This year I have a lot of blooms so I will be sharing my beauties with friends!

I have two colors: a very light pink which turns more white when in full bloom and a gorgeous pink (like pictured above).

Whenever I show them to people they think I have a green thumb, I think it's funny because that's far from the truth...I don't at all! With these, I let nature do its thing and just keep an eye on them! Hope these lovelies brightened your day like they did mine!

Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day Weekend has been set in stone since New Years Eve. That night we planned a trip to Tangier with our good friends. After a 4 hour car ride and a looong windy boat ride from Reedville, all 11 of us (plus 2 dogs) finally made it! After giving a full tour of the Island, our next stop was a seafood dinner at The Fisherman's Corner. We ordered crab bisque, hot crab dip, crab cakes, soft crabs, fish...basically anything seafood on the menu, we got it!

Sunday we spent the morning/afternoon at the beach...

And the guys decided to go for a swim. It was freezing.

They were quick getting out of the water!

Then we went to the annual Memorial Day service....

It was great as always and I loved getting to see one of my high school classmates, Aubrey, participate in the service. As I was standing there these lyrics were in my head:

"I thank God for my life
And for the stars and stripes
May freedom forever fly
Let it ring

Salute the ones who died
The ones that give their lives
So we don’t have to sacrifice
All the things we love"
-ZBB

I'm normally not a country fan, but it's something about summer and country music that goes hand in hand.

Me and my brother at the service.

That evening Joe's dad took everyone to his crab house and showed everyone the crabbing process.

Getting the full Tangier experience.

Kai touching a soft crab...

The puffer fish was a hit!

We also jumped off of the beacon...and it was freaking freezing.

And you can't visit Tangier without steamed crabs, thanks dad!

We ended Sunday with kayaking at sunset. It was perfect and definitely a highlight of the trip!

Before we left on Monday we went to the beach one more time ate at the Waterfront and while we waited for our food, Jonathon took me for a spin on his new ride..

I love being back home in the summer time, honestly I could move back. Sadly I can't so there's always our next visit which is for the 4th!
