Life with Two Kids

Life with two kids has definitely been easier than I thought. Don't get me wrong some days are rough and I feel like I've been through the ringer, but overall, it has been way easier going from 1 to 2 kids. Going from 0 to 1 was hard, really hard. My freedom was gone and I completely emptied myself for someone else. I loved this little girl like no other but I wasn't used to someone needing me all hours of the day. So when Oliver came along I knew what to expect. I was prepared for functioning on little sleep and I could tell myself that the demanding schedule of a newborn is only for a season. Because it truly does fly by.

Harlow is a good kid -- like any almost 2 year old, she has her moments of meltdowns. But I love that she's so patient with me, easy to entertain, loves her little brother, and a great helper. She loves to get me diapers, throw them away, and put his bottle in the sink. I love to get her involved with Oliver so she doesn't feel left out -- plus she loves it. Whenever I'm nursing or feeding him a bottle and she wants to play, I'll usually direct her attention to books. She'll go grab one from the stack and bring it to me to read. She's really into counting, so her current favorite book is 10 Little Ladybugs.

Oliver is also a good baby, he basically fusses if he's hungry. He still has nights where he's up every 3 hours and I feel like I'm going to lose it. But he'll flash me the cutest smile and suddenly it doesn't matter if he's on his 3rd feeding of the night -- it's like he knows what I need. For the past week he has been sleeping longer stretches, so I moved him to his crib. It was hard but he has to get used to sleeping in his space. We did the same with Harlow and she's an amazing sleeper.
I can't believe we're almost on month 3 of having 2 kids under 2.

June Beach Trip

We celebrated our 10 year anniversary on June 24th and it convieniently ended up on a weekend. We wanted to celebrate out of town but knew it had to be pretty laid back with a 2 month old. So to the beach we went!

Topsail Beach:

Oliver's 1st time to the beach

Days 2 and 3 were spent at Emerald Isle:

Celebrating 10 years

We had such a good trip, I couldn't believe how good both kids were. Harlow loves anything that involves water so she was in her glory. And Oliver, well he just ate and slept haha.

DIY Shelf

You can find tutorials all over Pinterest for these easy to make floating shelves. I wanted one for my kitchen and Joe delivered! I got the piece of wood (came in a 6 ft piece and Joe cut it to 5 ft) and brackets from Home Depot and used my favorite stain: Minwax Special Walnut. So easy and fun to decorate with each season.
