Ruler Growth Chart

I've been wanting something to track Harlow as she grows but didn't want to put marks on our wall (because if we ever move I'd be really sad). So I decided to make my own ruler growth chart and not pay an arm and a leg (they seem to range from $40 and up to $100). I used this tutorial and it turned out great! Just don't look too closely ;) Some lines are thicker than others, haha.

First step was buying a 6 foot board and then staining it. I did a mix of special walnut (my favorite) and golden oak.

Once that dried I started marking out the lines and numbers. I used font: century schoolbook, size 200. The plan was to hang it 8 inches off the floor, so my first line started at 9 inches and I went from there.

Next came painting the numbers and the lines. I just used black acrylic paint that I had on hand.

And viola! Time to hang.

The project cost just over $10 and that was for the board and hardware that we used to hang it. We had everything else. I have decided to mark her height every birthday and half birthday. I went back and marked her height at a year and a year and a half. You can kinda see it if you look closely (just below the 3). I can't believe we will be marking 2 years in just a few weeks!

Oliver: 4 months

Weight: 15 lbs. 12 oz. (58th percentile)
Height: 25 inches (42nd percentile)

Size: 2 diapers. Wearing 6 months but can still fit in some 3 month clothing.

Looks: Dad and Harlow.

Eyes: Blue.

Hair: brown with lots of blonde.

Sleeping: being a ROCKSTAR at sleep and sleeping in his own bed. Going to bed between 7:15 and 7:30 p.m. (I put him down awake and in a sleepsack) and waking up between 6 and 8 a.m.! If he wakes up at 6 a.m. he'll eat and go back to sleep until 9. One night last week he went to bed at 7:15 and didn't wake up until 8:15 -- 13 hours!! Taking 3 good naps a day.

Eating: every 3.5 to 4 hours. I nurse him and supplement with formula. So he's drinking around 5 to 5.5 oz per feeding.

Milestones: sleeping through the night and has an established bedtime. Rolling over belly to back. He almost has back to belly down but he just hangs out on his side. Had his 1st cold. Introduced him to the jumperoo and he loves it. Started laughing at his crazy sister. Doing great with his neck strength -- he struggled with this because he has a big head (haha) but he has done really well with it this month. Happy, happy, happy baby!

Memorable Outings: went to Maymont Gardens in Richmond for my birthday, splash pad, park, church, and visited the LU Monogram.

Loves: his sister, when we take naps together, loves for me to put my hand on the side of his head while holding his pacifier in with my thumb (if he's fighting nap time this works like a charm!), the jumperoo, and baths (especially with his sister).

Hates: being hungry, when I take him out the bath, when something startles him, cleaning his nose.

Words/Sounds: coos/agoo

Nicknames: Oli, Oli boy, bubs/bubba.

Harlow at her 4 month appointment and in the same room! Look how long she was!!

So this is 28...

A week and a half ago I celebrated my 28th birthday. My crew did a wonderful job of making me feel loved.  Joe presented some options: Virginia Beach, Charlottesville, or Richmond and let me choose. I decided on Richmond (2 hours away) to go to Maymont Gardens. I've always heard how beautiful it is there and it did not disappoint.

We ended the day with shopping at Short Pump and dinner.
